<<Revelation may be defined as the communication of some truth by God to a rational creature through means which are beyond the ordinary course of nature. >>
Communing with God are we?
The ordinary course of nature wrt truth involves animal nature alone, which is eat, grow, survive, and reproduce.
Truth in this existence is generally considered to be what lies beneath layers of complexity, paradox, irony, mystery, and a general chaotic circumstance. When some truth is exposed, we consider it having been revealed. In that sense, a scientist who discovers some underlying truth of existence can be said to be revealing God's truth, or having it revealed to him... same thing. Whether it is a moral principle, a law of physics, biological science, criminal activity, or transcendence to higher consciousness, the fact remains that any thing discovered as a greater truth than our obvious animal nature is a matter of revelation.
Human beings are driven to seek beyond animal nature and to reveal or have revealed to them an understanding beyond survival of flesh and satisfaction of carnal appetites. |
