Very amusing. NZ has been weathering the financial crisis very well - the recession has even been declared over here, although I'm not that optimistic. Employment in the construction trades is down 10% (not surprising after a boom decade in construction), but to a large extent life for most carries on much as usual. But Maurice is doing his best to put an unfavourable spin on what is in global terms a pretty favourable story. Somehow Helen Clark MUST have screwed things up, so Maurice is desperately hoping that the NZ economy will go down the tubes to prove him right about the bludgers. It's funny, but a bit pathetic.
