If you have a president (or presidential candidate) and a Congress, and a news media, who are telling us daily how bad [fill in the blank -- economy, health care, war, etc.] is, people will eventually start to believe it.

You have a rationalization for pretty much anything that doesn't fit. Couldn't have anything to do with their actual experience.... must be the media.
