About 1% of california's energy comes from wind generation.

The three main sources for that are:
Altamont Pass Wind Farm, Approx 15mi^2, 7000 turbines
San Gorgonio Wind Farm, Approx 15mi^2, 3000 turbines
Tehachapi Wind Farm, Approx 20mi^2, 5000 turbines

50 square miles to generate 1% of our energy needs....how many large areas of land that have consistent wind do we have left?

How much land are we willing to dedicate to wind generation?
