There is a very basic question here that will become more compelling as we get into the 2010 election campaigns.

Who does the Republican Party have with broad national appeal to lead them and serve as their standard bearer?

Their top party names are Steele, McConnell, Boehner, McCain, Shelby, Grassley and a string of lesser senators and Congressmen. No Republican governors with national prominence come to mind since Arnie doesn't count.

Outside the ranks of elected officials we have Rush, Glenn, Sarah, Newt, the neocons under Krauthammer, Cheney and Rove humping their supposed legacy and the rest of the hate-talk jocks on Fox and elsewhere.

Where exactly is the leadership and the message in all that, a package that could win more than 50% support nationally?

I don't see it. Someone please fill me in on what I am missing.
