Of course there is an extreme left, and the more right of the middle you get, the more extremists you "see". Obviously the far right sees everyone in the center and left of center as "extreme"- but there are certainly people in the right center who would (for example) find the support of marriage for gays "extreme". That's not an issue confined solely to the far right (for example) although it does seem to be a demographic issue, with its main adherents being old (at least that's what the statistics tell us).
