I would agree that the inflow of money to mutual funds should correlate closely with the general performance of the market(in much the same way Granville's OBV should correlate with the general performance of an individual stock).

Have you found an affordable source for the data? It would be interesting to backcheck and see how closely the numbers have corresponded in different time periods.
