I seem to recall from reading your previous comments you were involved in the business end of writing. I'm curious what you think of this.

Years ago the wife of one of my friends decided she wanted to write novels for a living. The husband agreed to support this idea while she went from a full time job to part time and spent most of the week writing. After two years or so she was unable to sell anything and had to cut back on that dream.

At the time she started she was 41, had two college degrees, had held some great jobs, and loved to read. By some accounts her IQ was off the charts. Many encouraged her to try this.

Where did she go wrong? Was she too old? Did she start too late in life? Neither degree was in journalism and she had never sold anything to a newspaper, or a short story to a magazine. Did she not try long enough or was it a simple matter that she had no talent in this field?

Had she asked my advice I would had said to look into getting an agent. Would this have been worthwhile or made a difference?

Anyone's comments welcomed.
