There is nothing really heroic about facing off against a mouthy 12 year old when you are being backed up by your wingmen! Social payout is intangible and therefore doesn't follow the rules of "real" things in our universe. Principles of conservation, or nullification by paradox don't apply. There is no conservation of heroism and we, as a socially-tuned ape-like creature, can create heroics (or other favorable emotions and social payout) from situations where there are imaginary or falsely perceived causes and effects.

This sounds great, but remember, Romans sweetened sour or poor quality wine by storage in lead vessels... leading to the perception that the wine was actually better. I'm safe in saying it wasn't really better.
