Unfortunately, sometimes even conservatives don't hold to strong conservative principles, which really makes it difficult.

And sometimes conservatives are loony wingers, too, which also makes it difficult. Wingers make the tent smaller which obviates the opportunity to obtain the power to move the country in the desired direction. Oh, the irony! I suppose there's a certain satisfaction in being a howling voice in the wilderness, but it's a sorry substitute for prevailing.

To be clear, I don't take the word lightly.

From the examples you give, that's not at all clear.

I intended no offense at your being middle of the road.

I was not offended. I was just standing up for the meaning of words, as I often do, and differentiating between the very different concepts of ideology and strategy.
