I grew up in Lake Tahoe and was taught how to ski by my Mom (Smoothsail). Smoothsail should brag about her skiing exploits here someday (she moved to Mammoth in the early 60s to join the olympic ski team)....

anyway, I don't even wear a hat when I ski. And i have no doubt that a helmet would be a wise decision. But, it's not for me.

I was a thrasher in the bumps....but one destroyed rotator cuff (Mammoth) and one torn ACL later (Mt Rose), I've slowed down a bit.

I guess with skiing I always felt that I could control the variables enough that I didn't need a helmet. Not so with bikes and motorcycles.
