You're talking official unemployment numbers, right (since we're probably close to or over 15% now). What time frame are you looking at for that (6 months, 1 year, 18 months?)

I think gold looks good here, but I don't like that it's more or less correlated w/the gen. markets. I suspect it'll get smashed w/everything else at some pt, but recover much faster.

I think it'll take more than 100 oil and 15% unemployment based on the people I talk with and in my family. I think we'll need to see a sustained downturn w/housing losing another 25% over the next 2 years and then they might start to think this won't be a run of the mill recession. I hope you're right and they see (financial) religion sooner.

With every country wanting a lower currency and Euro already crying uncle it's going to get very interesting if this continues much longer. Like many I suspect a decent market correction will send the Dollar temporarily higher.
