As far as Schwab is concerned, I doubt if they will spend one cent more than just enough to make it look like they are doing something. They had the same problem several times in the past and didn't fix it. In the last few months even at "normal" volume levels they were down several times, so they had plenty of warning about the problem. I suspect that it is a business decision to gamble with the voume and use the money they save for advertising to attract new customers. After today you would think they would lose half their business but they know inertia and PR will keep most of their customers. Bitching about it on these threads doesn't do a lot of good ,, better to write your congressperson, the SEC and NASD. Perehaps Schwab will do something to compensate us, but I doubt it.
Regarding SUNW, I have looked at it recently, looks good except for one huge long range risk. Intel's Merced will be as fast as anything Sun can come up with, and because of the volume will be much cheaper.
