This is not good news. Housing Inventory in SW Florida 10/20/2009 9:36 AM EDT I have spent the last few days driving around Southwest Florida which has been one of the epicenters of the housing bubble and bust and I can tell you that there are many many houses "available" from Toll Brothers (TOL) and Hovnanian (TOL). These homebuilders are definitely competing with many short sale opportunities that are available from the banks. For those of you who remain bullish on the home builders, make sure you check out Florida, Nevada, and Arizona. The major banks like BofA and Citigroup are a safer way to play the long and slow recovery of housing.
