Straw man, Jim. LBJ got elected because Goldwater was a scary guy who wanted to nuke Vietnam. Total BS. Goldwater had a bad habit of saying things he didn't really mean and didn't expect people to take seriously, such as "Sometimes I think it would be better to saw off the Eastern Seaboard, and let it float off to sea". Or someting like that. At onetime he said something like, "Lets lob one into the mens room at the Krimlin". Johnson ran the Daisy ad which implied Goldwater would have nuked the world, but pulled it after running it once. Later Goldwater supported Reagan. I doubt he would have done anything different than Reagan. Heck maybe the cold war would have been won two decades earlier.
