We did it that way at the big holiday family gatherings with grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins in the 1950s. I still remember the unique mixture of laughter that came from the adults in the dining room. It was a happy experience as best I remember. We ate in the kitchen and the parents ate in the dining room.
