Shock yes. Defeat? I thought it was hilarious. Biggest gotcha ever. My poor Pops almost had apoplexy on the spot he was laughing so hard.

You forgot to mention Gramma's friend, Mary, who was the reason the joke was being told. Most confused person in the world. And then my mother going ballistic because the family embarrassed her in front of her friend.
