iIf you Look at FIE.TO (an ETF).
Last year it offered a yield well above the dividends the actual Co's offered.
I phoned them and put that to them. The guy said that their mandate was to trade these stocks and HOPE that the trades would provide the balance of the payouts.
Hmmm, I thought so really I'm investing in traders.
the less informed investor buys FIE.TO thinking he is investing in Big Banks and insurance.
Personally, I thought well why not; let them give it a go after all they should have their ear closer to the ground than me.
Well apparently not as the big banks they play with have all come back to life but FIE has not.
It turned out to be a bit of a bummer for my bottom line, albeit my portfolio is pretty much back to normal, thanks to Oil Sands, ALA.UN,SPF.TO and KNA.TO and others to a lesser degree of course.
