Sam,
Thanks for the refreshing viewpoint on SEG. I think it has been overly trashed, too.
Tech,
Your posts are very informative and I enjoy reading your insights, but you are significantly biased toward QNTM. You said that QNTM's DD business is doing "great", but this is not true as they are losing money big time in the high end ($20M last quarter). Also, it's true that IBM has done well recently in the high end and that SEG and IBM are leading the market to the next generation high end drives by a quarter, but cost competitiveness is a CRITICAL factor in high end market share and the cost competition is getting extremely fierce. IBM won't get TOO far. SEG also has a significant lead in 10K and FC DD's. This will continue to give them momentum in the high end. Also, SEG's drives have higher performance than IBM's (and everyone elses, too).
In the desktop, Fireball may be doing OK, for now, but SEG's new 2.3GB/platter Medalist PRO will smoke it within a quarter. SEG also will have a broad range of 2.1GB/platter Medalist drives which will be in production in a BIG way next quarter. SEG will sell 8 million desktop drives next quarter (CYQ1). Positive surprises are on the horizon from SEG. QNTM better spin off DLT before their DD business totally drags it down.
