I explained that. It was the renewed sense of confidence from having won the war, soldiers returning, a general sense of exuberance, etc., that caused a great jump in consumer confidence.

There was that, but we had been doing that for ten years and it hadn't solved the problem. As soon as you quit the spending the unemployment comes back as we saw in 36/37.
