WFC has been buying and selling MBS.

"While average investment securities were up $7.3 billion, this largely reflected the averaging effect in the quarter of mortgage backed securities (MBS) purchased late in the second quarter at yields more than 1 percent above current market. During the third quarter, $23 billion of the lowest-yielding MBS were sold to reduce exposure to higher long-term interest rates.
