My dad traveled all over the world on news stories and always brought some gift from whatever country he'd been to. He covered every Olympics, both summer and winter games and every Rep and Dem Convention starting in the 60s. I attended the 60 Dem Convention and watched Kennedy get nominated.

Back in the day, newsmen were given tickets to everything. We lived in L.A. so got tickets to every preview and premier, season tickets to all football and baseball games, season clubhouse tickets to the horse races.

One of my favorite stories was a premier I attended with Larry Doheny, grandson of E.L. Doheny, the oilman. We arrived in a limo and my dad had arranged for a couple of his photographers to start taking pictures of us. One of them had us pose so you could see the Chinese Theater in the background. We started walking down the red carpet and someone shouted from the fan stands, "Hey! Who are you?" We stuck our noses in the air and pretended we were somebody.
