yeah, consistent with what benwood was saying, i think one of the glaring omissions from his inputs is fossil fuels. basically humans have found a way to convert chemical energy from the sun, which has accumulated over tens or hundreds of millions of years, into a dazzling burst of economic energy and exponential wealth growth that so far has lasted less than two hundred years.

on the scale of geological history and even human history, it is just a flash in the pan, but because we have all grown up inside this flash we believe it will go on forever.
