You're way off base. I suspect living in a well-off liberal gated community makes you out of touch with working stiffs.

In 2007, the median annual household income rose 1.3% to $50,233.00 ..... In 2006, there were approximately 116,011,000 households in the United States. 1.93% of all households had annual incomes exceeding $250,000.[6] 12.3% fell below the federal poverty threshold[7] and the bottom 20% earned less than $19,178.[8]

en.wikipedia.org

Digging, I see 3.1% of households in 2006 earned below $5K, 4.4% from $5K - $9,999. Thats 7.5% of households under $10K. 5.9% earn from $10K - 14,999. I imagine the top of the bottom 10% is around $12.5K or so.

So you'd put the 80% tax rate beginning at $250K. Of course, less than 2% of households make that much.
