Don't read too much into what I said. Portland is still a great place to live ... if you don't mind the rain.

I just say that to counter any liberal's illusion that Portland is a model city for urban development.

One thing to note is that Portland isn't as white as you may think it is. There's enough minorities in the metropolitan area to qualify as a multicultural city (at least much more so than the rural areas of Oregon and Washington state). But Portland still has its share of racial issues, especially illegal immigrants who have (appropriately enough) migrated from California.

P.S. - For a while, Portland was known as "Deport-land" by international visitors who fly into the city only to be detained for hours, even days, by the local INS bureau at the time. Why that was still remains a mystery.
