Tim:

<<According to the CFO of Phoenix, the turnover of engineers is slightly lower than the average (16%) in the SF Bay area. It would appear that they've stabilized from the problem that they had in the past.>>

That's good news. Their contract with Intel specifies that Pheonix recruit a certain number of engineers in Oregon, which has been completed. SystemSoft's success indicates that they had a bigger problem in MA than CA. Hopefully, that's behind them and they can raid SystemSoft!

<<I've noticed that Phoenix has issued several press releases lately regarding special purpose PC agreements with various key players. Any idea how serious Intel is about that market?>>

I don't really know, but my impression is that they don't care. If they did, they'd release CPUs that integrate other motherboard functions. AMD just released a 386 with SRAM and Cyrix is planning a design, too, so I think they're both ahead of Intel.

I think the most important Pheonix initiative is SilentPC. The future of the PC is in multimedia. I would never play my stereo or watch TV if the background noise was as loud as my PC. It's mundane stuff, but it's still important.
