Rosemary, A new (much larger) Barnes and Noble opened up in our area the other day. They have a Starbucks cafe, and being a coffee lover I cruise on down with my wife, get a grande coffee, and hit the magazine section (which happens to be the size of Compaq Center in Houston). I pick up a copy of Individual Investor magazine, and the first article is authored by WHO ELSE BUT MARIA BARTIROMO $#@#%$ I can't take it anymore, she 'ain't' a writer, the article was full of quotes by WS pundits! Anyway, on a more serious note, I was thinking about the possibility of CPQ buying SGI the other day myself, and I really wonder what the advantages might be. From my understanding, SGI is in trouble because the WINTEL boxes are encroaching on it's turf. When MERCED comes out, that trouble will get MUCH WORSE. So, other than those wonderful movie machines, what does SGI really have to offer that will give CPQ an edge in the future? I know they are also into high end UNIX servers, but again, WINTEL is eating away at that market just like those servers ate away at the S/370 mainframe market. Opinions welcome!!
