(Would be INTERESTING to know exactly what the wording was of the question - or questions - that was asked by Gallup. For example: good to know what the various respondents THINK 'conservative' means!) Is it 'fiscal conservative' in their minds? 'Social conservative'? BOTH? Neither? A fondness for sepia toned imaginings of bygone days? Authoritarianism? Anti-Authoritarianism (Libertarianism)? Is is EVERYONE who thinks that the word 'conservative' sounds cool... even if they hold diametrically opposed policy beliefs from each other? Hard to interpret the meaning of a poll's answers WITHOUT knowing what the questions were. :-)
