Maybe the encroaching socialism is because families are smaller and bossy Big Brothers and Sisters predominate more than decades and centuries ago when most people were somewhere in a swarm of 10 descendants.

The number one attribute of people who are in charge of other people is that they want to be and get a kick out of ordering people around, taking their things and being top dog.

With millions of families, there is no shortage of megalomaniacs to compete for the top job, viciously if needs be [see Saddam for harsh methods of dominance]. But there are swarms of second and third division jobs they can gain too and voting for more government is a good way of expanding the megalomaniac kleptocratic empire.

Maybe there is a sociological study somewhere of voting preferences versus place in family and place in family versus power-seeking and obtaining attributes.

China, with 100s of millions of single-child "Little Emperors" must be heading for some interesting sociological transformation. From what I saw in Beijing, there are some nasty little sods.
