"Gut the company"? "Laying off very talented people"? Please. Every big company has dead wood; I think it's good they're pruning it. One out of ten is probably about right IMO, going from what I've seen during time at places like Sun, IBM and Bell Labs. And believe me, the core (and genuinely talented) people are none too sorry to see the underperformers move on. Neither is Wall Street...
