KT,

I suspect that a lot of these guys are not good enough to win at the highest levels of poker anyway. They rise to the level of their incompetence and then go broke. The other thing is that many aren't adequately financed. Look at "High Stakes Poker". Perhaps some of them of are getting backed, but my guess is more than a few of these guys should not be in that game. My net worth would have to be in 15M-20M range and I'd have to have a long record of being successful against that caliber of player at smaller stakes to even consider sitting down at that table. I play .50 - 1.00 and 1.00 - 2.00 games where I have an edge even though I sometimes bet 1K on a horse race. The idea is to play where you belong, but most of them have too strong a gamblers impulse or too big an ego to measure their own talents properly.

The funny thing is that if I had 20M, the last thing in the world I'd be doing is playing high stakes poker. ;-)
