Ted, > Then why didn't you know that when electrical demand is high in Seattle, its relatively low in CA and visa versa?

I'm talking about stuff that goes way beyond trading excess capacity between seasons.

Some of the stuff revolving around "smart grid" includes outlets and shut-off switches on your own appliances and air conditioner. I've got one on my air conditioner, but I chose to get it installed, and it's only controlled by Southern California Edison.

Imagine a central power grid controlled by a federal agency that regulates power delivery at the endpoint itself. They'll shut down some of your appliances during the summer when, for example, Californians are running the air conditioner full blast. Or the winds just aren't blowing across the wind farms T. Boone Pickens wants to build.

Sounds too much like a wacky right-wing conspiracy theory?
