Ted, > So what would you prefer....having some of your appliances turned off, or the enter western grid collapsing for an extended period of time?

Here's a novel concept ... build more power plants.

Nothing novel about it......we've been doing it for decades. Why do you guys always want to take the easy way out?

And not just solar and wind that can't sustain itself without government support.

As I understand it, the subsidies are coming off the solar industry. In any case, there is nothing wrong with initially subsidizing a new industry going up against mature industries until the playing field gets leveled out.

We can burn coal without the smog.

I understand the scrubbers are not that effective.

We can build new nuclear power plants if it weren't for environmentalist wackos.

Its not just environ. wackos......a lot of people oppose nukes.

We can even build more hydroelectric dams if it weren't for said wackos.

You know of rivers in the continental US that have not been dammed? I find that surprising.

As for the consumption end, I already said that I have a remotely-controlled shut-off device on my air conditioner. Only problem is that it shuts off when we need it the most, so I changed it to the 20 min on-off cycle instead. Gotta keep the wife happy.

Uh......I thought in R households the man wore the pants. AMIRITE?
