I wanted to comment on two flyers I've received from democrats in the last few days attacking Susan Hutchison who is a conservative running for King County Executive. The first flyer I received portrayed the physical appearance of Susan Hutchison as a sort of dark cartoon character. They obviously airbrushed her picture adding frown lines, worry lines and all of the other lines that make us look old and tired. The content of the flyer contained the same old Bush and Rossi and Cheney and any other "right wing" connections they despise and loath etc...blah blah, yawn. The second flyer I received today made her look even more sinister than the first. I believe their intent is to portray her as fake and plastic and evil........a person you could not or would not trust. I really am not surprised. Tearing down the opponent is typical of political campaigns, but I realized something else after I got that second flyer and took a long look at the picture they manipulated. It sent chills down my spine. The democrat party is very shrewd and have plenty of people who understand how to manipulate the electorate, but I think they've taken the art to a new and much more malevolent level. By doing what they have done to her image they are influencing thousands of people by molding their opponents exclusive property........her face........into an image that horrifies. In this instance they are stealing her persona, her individual character, the being she owns which is hers alone. They have constructed a monster, attached it to perceived non PC positions and have built a whole new person from the old........as if they were God. Susan Hutchison is a very sharp woman and has huge name recognition from her days as the main anchor on one of the local news organizations, and she's also the favorite to win. I think this tactic is going to backfire on democrats, but I am amazed at the lengths they'll go to to win elections.
