What's good for East Germany is certainly just as good for Taiwan.
OTOH, maybe not if the US gets a say in the matter, and of course the US will want a say.

But maybe you are right, and the rebels will return amicably to the motherland. Think of it as a leveraged buyout, perhaps.
That of course in no way diminishes the technical savvy of the Taiwanese or their economic clout in high tech - hardly a province of peasants.
