On Tuesday morning, fearing another market slide I placed a limit sell order on a stock in my wifes IRA account, the market immediately dropped past my limit and as I watched for a few minutes it bottomed and started back up so I placed a cancel, while watching real time quotes my order did not execute so I was somewhat releived, then about an hour later my screen showed a cancel and I quit worrying about it.

Then this morning I called up that account to make a trade and to my susprise the order had executed. I am supposed to be notified of confirmations by email, but I never received a confirmation of any sort for three days. My Order status screen still showes a cancel for that trade. Had I of been notified of the trade occurring I could have cut my losses and bought back. I contacted Ameritrade this morning and I have been told that they would/could not reverse the order. So I am eating the $2500 loss. I have an email conversation going with Chris Johnson of Ameritrade and I have found Chris to be very responsive in the past. Maybe Chris can work something out that will satisfy me and if he does I will be back with good words about Ameritrade, as it is in a couple of weeks I will be moving that account to Datek if Ameritrade continues in their stance that they will not do anything about it. The supervisor I talked to this morning informed me the Market Makers infromed them that they would have to eat the loss, but he also imformed me that it was my trade and I could eat it.

Sorry Chris I know this makes your job harder.

Not happy but I will accept it as educational if I have to, and whether I have to remains to be seen.

I would also add that just after I placed the first order I placed a similar order in another account with Datek. I cancelled it after I cancelled the Ameritrade one and the Datek order cancelled in a minute or so with no problems.
