Sorta OT: Pandora One ...

Hi Frank,

<< I've made the decision to go for the PANDORA ONE service.>>

I'm a fan of Pandora and the Music Genome Project.

Are you using the Pandora One desktop client option? It's pretty darned good. I compute on an L shaped work station with a new Win 7 box in front of me and my older XP Pro SP3 box to my left -- both serviced by Verizon FIOS and connected by ethernet to a Verizon supplied Actiontec wired/wireless router -- and I can swivel easily from one desktop to the other. I work on the secondary box when maintenance tasks are running on the Win 7 desktop DPE or when using some older apps. Pandora One Desktop tuned to Danny Wright Radio (New Age and quiet Jazz) is running unobtrusively much of the time on the XP box while I work on the primary system. Since Pandora's about discovery I can swivel to see who's playing what and bookmark the artist. My 5 year old high end Logitech Z-2300 2:1 speakers were moved to the newer box and I ordered this trio (below) for $19 delivered from Amazon for Pandora listening ..,

They provide a very pleasant sound in very compact space for very modest bucks. I also use Napster as my primary music store (and Amazon secondary). I pay Best Buy's Napster $5/month billed quarterly for streaming service which also provides a credit for 15 purchased tracks per quarter which I use to fill in gaps in a very large music library ripped from CD's from my carousels's and traveling cases and I'm now ripping tracks and/or albums from a very large vinyl LP collection to PC using Drew Kaplan's DAK hardware and software. I hope to get through a 100 disk jazz collection and 50 disk big band set -- both on rarely played (except for dubbing to open reel) red virgin vinyl and both from Franklin Mint purchased in the 70s -- by spring, and the resumption of our prime golf season.

I might add that one of the treats in Win 7 is the new Windows Media Player (WMP 12) which shares code with the new media center and integrates closely with it. WMP 11 was very good. WMP 12 is even better. Ars Technica has an overview of WMP 12 here ...
