Casinos are a lot of fun too, like gold - a zero sum game, with the house taking a cut every deal. Las Vegas attracts "investment" of huge amounts of money, aka effort, just as gold does, with similar allure of profit and glory, inevitably to disappoint [for most players though not the dealers].
After Las Vegas and gold transactions are all over, money has changed hands, and nothing else is different with nothing achieved. A lot of hissing and roaring, sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Each to their own. A round of golf involves a lot of sound and fury, hissing and roaring too, with nothing to show for it at the end.
Golf, gold, god, good - seem closely related words [an etymologist might make something of it] = something to be pursued with the triumph of hope over experience.
