Harald Jaeger is a good reminder of that. I first met him in Berlin a decade ago. He’s the former officer in the East German border guards who, on the night of Nov. 9, 1989, opened the gate at Berlin’s Bornholmer Strasse, ending the Cold War. It was an amazing event. West Germans who were in Berlin at the time said that East Germans just started coming over the border. The West Germans were totally perplexed......they didn't understand what was happening. No one cold believe it was over......Berlin was no longer divided!
