I think this is true. Look at the last presidential election. Extreme right wingers HATE John McCain, but the (R) party ended up with him as the nominee, so they could look "reasonable" to the general electorate. The right wing was sold out.

They probably believe if PALIN had been at the top of the ticket, they'd have WON!
