On the imagination, industry, innovation issue - Canada has the largest number of hardrock (metal) mining firms of any nation and extensive worldwide operations. They have a dynamic petroleum sector. They have widely adopted nuclear reactor designs. They also design biotech and small molecule drugs. I have been pretty happy with my Canadian investments. They has been able to make a multi-language nation work, with the friction amounting to not much more than a few blown up mailboxes. (I'm giving away my age here) Not something the US should even attempt.
