Universal Detection Technology Mold Detection Device to Protect Homeowners from Toxic Black Mold in Flood-Damaged Homes

UNDT Expands Biohazard Product Catalog to Equip Homeowners and Health Officials in Mold Detection Caused by Flood Damage or High Humidity, Preventing Serious Health Complications

LOS ANGELES, Nov 03, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Universal Detection Technology (www.udetection.com) (OTCBB: UNDT), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats, announced today that it is expanding its product catalogue to include a consumer-ready kit for the detection of black mold. The lethal toxin can make homes in areas of high humidity or flood-damaged homes uninhabitable and cause serious health complications.
"The aftermath of Katrina exposed the widespread prevalence of black mold in flood-damaged homes," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, CEO of Universal Detection Technology. "This easy-to-use product will equip homeowners in proactively testing their homes and remediate any mold damage prior to the onset of health complications," continued Tizabi.

The most serious type of mold in the home is of the "black" variety, a slimy greenish-black substance commonly found in damp, moist areas of walls, ceilings and floors. Houses that have been flooded are at serious risk for molds, especially in areas where humidity and temperatures provide the mold with the ideal setting to reproduce and spread before cleanup begins. The houses flooded by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina are perfect examples of homes that have suffered extreme damage from mold.

According to a 1999 Mayo Clinic Study, nearly all chronic sinus infections (afflicting 37 million Americans) are a result of molds. Moreover, some medical studies show that the 300 percent increase in the asthma rate over the past 20 years is linked to molds. Black mold can cause cancer, memory loss and severe respiratory problems. Toxic mold is especially harmful to infants or individuals with diminished immune systems.
