The generally more conservative states that people are moving to generally don't have the same degree of problems with runaway spending and public employee's unions. There not immune to the problems, but they aren't as bad.

That's right. They're are just poor. They get more tax revenue back from the feds then they put in. Guess whose carrying their load.

NC voted for Obama after an unpopular president's term was up, after the financial problems started to unfold, and after Obama portrayed himself as far more moderate than he really is. That hardly means NC isn't a fairly conservative state.

NC is purple now. The prosperous area around Raleigh Durham has become increasingly high tech and liberal. Charlotte just elected its first Dem mayor in 30 years. Demographically and economically NC looks more and more like a blue state than a red one.
