The shooting at Ft. Hood is unbelievable. Several things stand out and I don't know which is more important:

1. He's a psychiatrist. I have always heard that many are serioiusly ill, mentally. It's not a joke. That's why they are interested in the field.

2. He's a Muslim. We are at war with radical Islam, and there are indications that he was becoming more radical.

3. He graduated from Virginia Tech. Coincidence? Probably, but it wouldn't hurt to take a look at that school.

4. He didn't want to go to Iraq. He is a career Army Officer. You go where the wars are. It's not like he'd be in the front lines.

5. He had bad performance reviews at Walter Reed. I know the services can't afford to lose many people they educate, but sometimes you've gotta say, "we draw the line here."

A sad day.
