This week I opened three bottles of wine. All would sell for much more than $20 each.

1986 Lynch Bages: Big robust cassis with a structure of tannin that would have taken it many more yeas. Bold and fruity that never quite overwhelmed the tannins.

1970 Pichone Comptesse Lalande: My last bottle. Ten minutes disassembling the cork in place resulted in zero chewy content. Still a big tannin backbone. The fruit was not as strong. After a half hour the fruit emerged and it was a delightful wine but still big boned.

1987 Mondavi Cabernet Reserve: It showed the same kind of structure and fruit as you would expect from a Pauillac as the former two were. It was always in harmony and it was enjoyable to the end.
