Great feedback! This thread needed some revitalization, so thanks MP, Mark, Ox and Peter! :-) I now have some homework to do..............although hunting down some of these wines and trying them probably doesn't truly qualify as "work" ;-)

MP - Thanksgiving beach picnic. What a novel concept. I'm jealous! Sounds fun. I'm with you in that I would never have considered a Sauvignon Blanc or a Gewurzt.

Hummm, Champagne and sparklers getting mentioned a lot. Hadn't really considered that? Nor had I given any thought to a Reisling?

Mark and Ox, I tend to not be a big fan of Zins. Just a matter of personal preference I guess. I drink very little of it.

I'm intrigued by and thinking along the same lines of Gamay, Rhone Reds and open to Pinot Noir ideas.

Peter! It appears that I have much to learn from you..........I had to Google Lynch Bages just to find out what it was, lol. ;-)

Ok, so lets narrow the focus, for me anyway. I'm not a fan of light "blonde and creamy" turkey gravies. Mine will be dark, rich, savory and hearty! Will be loaded with slowly and deeply caramelized onion, nut brown roux, finely minced heart, gizzard and some of the liver, as will my dressing. This year will generally qualify as "traditional style", but I will be adding some heat with chile/adobo roasted sweet potatoes, and the cranberry sauce that I am doing this year is going to be dark and flavorful with dried cherries and blueberries, a bit of cinnamon, thyme, allspice, white pepper and pomegranate balsamic worked into the mix.

Gamay, Pinot or a Rhone red???? All ideas I was considering, or am I way off base??

Tomorrow is the opening of the pheasant hunt in Northern Utah, so I will be spending every minute of daylight for the next 48 hours chasing the elusive ringneck along the Utah/Idaho border.

And I LOVE Chardonnay! Is that a pardonable offense on this thread ;-)

Wishing a great weekend to all and thanks for the ideas, I have lots of hunting and sampling to do now...........
