If this country is to be competitive in a global economy we can't beat up businesses who want to locate here. They'll just go somewhere else.

Do you think that's a good thing? Do you think businesses are run by idiots? Corporate income taxes are paid by a corporation's customers or shareholders, depending on what your beliefs are. Either leaves the businesses at a competitive disadvantage that cannot be overcome.
