Serious question:

How does one punctuate a story within a story? That is, in a story told in first person wherein a character tells a story which has dialog?

Such as:

I listened as the storyteller droned on.

“Many people gathered around,” Storyteller continued, “and looked at him. They decided that he was a party man. ‘You are invited,’ they said, ‘We are having a party tonight.’”

This is a masked paraphrase, but it illustrates my question. Is this the proper way to use quotation marks in such a case?
