Thanks, for the response. It helps to understand what one perceives as radical.

In your first example, one would have to know specifically what views/actions are espoused by each category in the "political continuum." Only then could one judge what is outside of them - left or right - to be radical. I would certainly fail that test.

However, in the examples that you gave for what Obama would have to favor to be considered radical, I noticed some which seem to be favored by - or close to - some of his advisors, appointees, etc.

Then your second definition is based on history or tradition. Again, I say that some of those "around" him do seem to fit that description.

I think we also tend to judge the tactics of the other guys by the tactics and beliefs of their advisers.
