The infection was worse and deeper then I first thought. Had go back to an image over a year ago, and that needed some cleaning too. The problem occurred when I had trouble with my ISP and used a site to test my downloading speed. I have changed most of my passwords now. The malware definitely was targeting that sort of information.

Incidently my ISP gave me a new updated version of my cable modem and I get 20 megs no problem.

The first infection by a virus being eliminated each day was a clue. As I dug deeper there was a host of malware that had been growing over the months that AVG was not detecting. When I searched for root kits I would get a momentary bluescreen and a computer restart. That has all been fixed now and I can search for rootkits etc.

I was able to revover all my data and programs by selectively uploading data that I now knew was clean from images that were infected.

What a mess though.

I will check my now clean PC with a few more malware programs as shown on this thread.

It's good to know there is some help out there.
